Two-thirds of all cancers that are diagnosed can be prevented through healthy lifestyle changes. More cancers can also be successfully treated if detected early. While it may not always be able to be prevented, a proper diet and avoiding habits like smoking and excessive alcohol intake may help you and your loved ones to avoid cancer. Regular screenings can also help to detect certain types of cancer in their earliest stages.
Preventing Cancer
Research has shown that healthy lifestyle habits hold the key to cancer prevention. Although many people think cancer is inevitable, that isn't necessarily true. In fact, 65% to 85%* of all cancers can be prevented by healthy lifestyle changes.
• Cut out the fat: up to one-third of cancers may be linked to nutrition
• Sun: more than one million Americans will be diagnosed this year with a cancer that is almost totally preventable--skin cancer
• No smoking: smoking is responsible for 87% of all lung cancer cases and 30% of all deaths from cancer
• Screenings: cancer screenings can increase the chances of successful treatment
