We are pleased to announce two new medical directors at St. Vincent Medical Center:
- Dr. Alexander Marmureanu, Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Dr. James McPherson, Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery
The addition of these distinguished surgeons to our medical leadership team will help us enhance the quality and comprehensiveness of care for our patients.
Dr. Marmureanu is the Founder and CEO of California Heart & Lung Surgery Center. He maintains an active cardiothoracic surgery practice, with special expertise in the field of minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Marmureanu completed his general surgery residency and a research fellowship at New York University Medical Center. He then continued his surgical training at Mount Sinai Medical Center where he was actively involved in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery research.
Dr. Marmureanu completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at UCLA, where he subsequently joined the UCLA faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Marmureanu was later appointed Director of Thoracic Surgery at Century City Hospital, where he built a very successful Center for Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Marmureanu is internationally recognized in the field of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery and has authored numerous research papers and publications. He is a member of multiple organizations and committees, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Marmureanu is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. McPherson is also certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Cardiothoracic Surgery at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and as attending cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital at Columbia University in New York, where he served his residency and was a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery. He is a graduate of the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
Most recently, Dr. McPherson has served as Associate Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Tommy Lasorda Heart Institute at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood. He also serves as Medical Director of the Los Angeles Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Group. He has particular interests in minimally invasive valve repair and replacement, complex coronary artery bypass surgery, endovascular aortic aneurysm surgery and transfusion free cardiac surgery. He has also made numerous television and radio appearances discussing the impact of cardiovascular disease and lung cancer.
