Los Angeles Heart Institute

The Los Angeles Heart Institute (LAHI) is committed to serving our community through cardiovascular research and education.

Established in 1974, the Institute’s primary mission is to support and enhance our cardiac services through:

• comprehensive research and technology assessment

• educational and community outreach services

• charitable care and fundraising
Research and Technology Assessment
The LAHI has conducted a number of clinical research and technology assessment projects that have enhanced cardiovascular procedures and surgical techniques here at St. Vincent Medical Center.

Educational Services
The LAHI sponsors a range of cardiology conferences and symposia, such as the Annual Visiting Professor Program, and the Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium.
Visiting Professor Program: This continuing medical education program sponsored by the LAHI is designed to provide primary care physicians and specialists with the latest information on intervention and innovation in cardiac care.

Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium: This symposium is designed for nurses and other healthcare professionals interested in the latest developments in cardiovascular patient care. The symposium aims to enhance the practice of cardiovascular nursing by providing an update on clinical treatment approaches and interventions for critical care and cardiovascular patients.
Community Education and Outreach:
The LAHI disseminates cardiac educational material to adults in our community, offering vital information on prevention and diagnosis. The Institute also reaches elementary school students in Los Angeles, helping to educate them on heart health and a healthy lifestyle.

Other educational programs include:
• Healthy heart seminars (conducted in multiple languages)

• The Community Heart Health Intervention Program (CHHIP)- CHHIP is a project which targets low income, high-risk patients and their families in the Korean community. It is specifically designed to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease through medical case management, culturally sensitive education, social support, and health screenings. It is supported by a grant from the UNIHEALTH Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization whose mission is to support and facilitate activities that significantly improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities within its service area.
Fundraising
The LAHI has helped to raise more than $7 million to support the clinical cardiac care program at St. Vincent Medical Center. To donate to the LAHI or for more information on donating, please contact the St. Vincent Foundation.
